Tracking Solutions

Using selected Fleet Manager extensions, various tracking and messaging options are available to users of the VDO Fleet Manager 2002 Professional Software package.

We provide different solutions depending on your needs:

1) If your VDO FM 200 Plus on-board computers are connected to a GPS module, you can instruct the VDO FM 200 Plus to store positional data with trip data, but you can plot this data on a map and review the route taken by a vehicle after you have downloaded the data from your vehicle into your database (unless of course, you have a GSM modem attached). We call this a Passive Tracking solution, as you are analyzing historical data.

2) If you have a GSM modem installed in addition to a GPS, you can actually track your vehicles' movements in real-time, and we refer to this as an Active Tracking solution as you are analyzing data as it gets recorded in the vehicle and sent on to base. This means that you can see route deviations as and when they happen, and you can actively manage your vehicles from your desktop.

Alternatively, a Dayton Navigation System can be used in conjunction with Fleet Manager 200 Plus and the Active Tracking and Messaging Extension, to allow the sending and receiving free-text and job-related messages in both directions. Jobs can be assigned to the driver and full details of these will be displayed on the VDO Dayton. This includes address information that will allow the VDO Dayton to provide the driver with navigation to the destinations needed to complete the job. The driver is able to respond to job messages and provide the operator with feedback on the status and progress of jobs. Free-text messages can be sent from the vehicle to the operator and from the operator to the vehicle. These messages can be initiated by either party and are used for passing information that is not directly related to any job.

The GPS data recorded by the VDO FM 200 Plus can be displayed on street level maps using either one of our GPS Log Viewer Extensions, where advanced features like route-planning and address searches are available.

GPS Log Viewer for Microsoft MapPoint®,
This extension enables users of Microsoft's MapPoint 2001 (Europe and North America versions available) to view your GPS data on street level maps, plan vehicle routes, print driving directions, and use many other powerful features.

FM GPS Log Viewer (South Africa, Australia and Chile)
This GPS data log viewer displays vehicle routes on street level maps. It includes functionality to define locations and geo-fences, allows address searches, as well as the importing of a wide range of map formats (if you wish to use their own map data).
